First Teacher Evaluation

I had my first teacher evaluation last week. The moment I saw the principal walk in with all of her stuff, my stomach fell to the floor. It was actually a wonderful lesson to have observed! I was teaching about how the holiday, Thanksgiving, began. Not the first dinner, but the woman who kept writing letters to different Presidents to make Thanksgiving made an actual holiday. We also discussed how the President gets to pardon a turkey and watched a video of President Obama doing this. The students loved this lesson and were very engaged. I got a wonderful review and feel much better about the idea of having an evaluation!

  1. I still get nervous when I am evaluated. It is nice knowing what to expect, so I am a little more relaxed, but not much. I am actually up again this year. This is my first year teaching 6th grade and hope I can good good comments from my principal.
Congrats on yours...it must feel great to have it done and out of the way!

  2. Congrats on your evaluation!!! It is always scary when your superior is judging and watching you as you teach. Be confident in who you are as a teacher and you will naturally shine with the lesson as well as with the students!!

  3. Yeah! You survived. It is nice that you were observed early on in the year. I always hate it when that is set aside until the last minute. There's nothing like trying to teach a final exam review as part of an observation. When I was searching for a job I was always myself. However, this didn't always get me the job. I had many interviews but didn't settle on trying to mold myself into what I thought the principal was looking for. As a language teacher I really feel like a performer, always singing and acting out silly phrases. The fact that my school hired me after seeing a dramatic lesson plan gave me a lot of confidence.
On another note I watched the History Channel and recently learned about this lady, named Sarah? Apparently she was the Martha Stewart of her time! I bet you students really enjoyed the lesson!

  4. Sounds like a fun lesson. I hate observations. I always feel like I am putting on a show and not being myself when I am being watched. I prefer when the principal just pops in and sees me doing what I naturally do. Congrats of your great evaluation!
